Welcome to Jon Hinchliffe Hypnotherapy
I am based on the beautiful island of Sanday in Orkney. I am normally very effective at helping a person in one two hour session. Getting to Sanday can be slow with Ferries but we also have access by flights from Kirkwall on mainland Orkney. I am also happy to work via video link. I have found this to be just as successful as working with a person in a room.
If you have an issue you would like to work on please take a look around and feel free to call me on 01857 600708 .
Is all hypnotherapy the same?
Hypnotherapy is a bit of an art. A lot of hypnotherapists are taught to work using scripts or using language similar to stage hypnotherapists. I have been taught Hypnotherapy the Ericksionian way. Not only this but I have been taught by the trainer that taught most of the current UK trainers, Stephen Brooks. Brooks specialises in live demonstrations and since he often sees a client only once he will pack in a lot of content to that one session. I have studied extensively with Stephen Brooks and now train other hypnotherapists myself. This means it is normal for me to pack as much as I can into one of my sessions. It is rare for me to see clients weekly as I like my clients to get as much from a session as they can. When someone walks into my room I have no pre-conceived plans as to what I will do to help them. I will start asking questions and my clients tend to find they start moving on just from these. I will also give lots of examples of what I am talking about to help you really understand what it is you can achieve. Then I move onto a formal hypnosis session to really cement in all the learnings you will make during the session.
My sessions tend to last about 2hrs as I want you to achieve as much as you can as fast as you can.
Hypnosis is scary stuff isn’t it?
A lot of clients do have concerns about their minds being messed with. This is probably based on having seen hypnosis in the movies or in a stage show. You can’t be made to stop smoking or lose weight unless you want it to happen, much as I would love to help change the world. Hypnosis is safe and tends to be relaxing. Everyone experiences trances every time they get engrossed in a book or watch TV. Runners experience an active type of trance. As a hypnotherapist I have a good understanding of how the mind works and how to help you achieve more with your mind. I normally teach techniques which will allow you to achieve things for yourself after you have finished working on your issue.
If hypnosis isn’t like in the movies will I really benefit from it? I don’t believe I can be put in a trance.
These are all normal concerns. Stage hypnosis tends to use people that go into a very deep trance state. This is not required for therapeutic work. Something called “NLP” or “Neuro Linguistic Programming” is very powerful and doesn’t use what most people recognise as a trance. I work with people in whatever way they are comfortable for me to work with them.
I have a reputation of being difficult to hypnotise (probably wrongly) however I have worked on myself and despite not originally believing it was possible I have almost completely pulled myself out of M.E. or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which is something I have had since 1994. I did this using the principles of what I learned with hypnotherapy and just applying it to myself. I was so sceptical I went on a course for hypnotherapists wanting to help ME suffers and did so with a purpose of helping others. I didn’t expect to find a way I could eventually improve myself.
So what sort of things can Jon Hinchliffe Hypnotherapy help with?
That is a very difficult question. I would never claim to be able to cure cancer but I can help with the symptoms and I would not rule out the possibility that focusing on having a healthy body would help bring about a healthy body. The following gives an idea
- Pain control
- Reducing anxiety
- Increasing confidence
- Breaking phobias
- Anger control
- Improving general health/well being
- Overcoming depression
- Beating exam nerves
- Stopping nail biting
- Overcoming irritable bowl syndrome
- Stopping smoking
- Improving performance
- Beating nocturnal enuresis (Bedwetting)
- Weight control
- Breaking habits
- Speeding up healing
- Beating obsessive compulsive disorder
- Overcoming insomnia
- Achieving your maximum
- Family interactions
- Sexual matters
- Low Self esteem
