Weight Loss: The Easy way

Do you want to lose weight?
Do you find diets don’t seem to work?
Does something inside you just seem to fight the changes you keep making?

What you need is a new way of looking at things and a new approach.

The first thing to know is weight gain is not your fault. Years of evolution during times when foods were scarce mean you are more likely to have ancestors that were good at eating lots of food when they found it. They ate so much it was stored as fat and then when times were difficult the fat was converted back to energy. You will also be tempted by lots of types of food as they help keep your diet in balance.

Most people also believe they eat when they are hungry and stop when they are full. Research shows this to be incorrect. Some people have brain damage and therefore don’t remember they just just eatten a meal 15 minutes ago. If you offer them a meal what happens? They will eat it. They don’t remember eating the meal and their body is not telling them they are full. What happens with a third meal? They will probably eat it. At some point they will notice their stomach “seems too small” but they won’t realise they are full because they won’t remember having eaten.

The current thinking on how are bodies deal with food is that we are like a leaking water barrel with a supply of water going in at the top and some water leading out through a split in the side. The water level inside the barrel is fixed as long as the water going in matches the water going out. If more water enters at the top then the presure of the water in the leak increases a bit and causes more water to come out but not as much as the water going in. So the water in the barrel starts to rise. Eventually a balance point is reached at a new higher level. If they water going in is then reduced the water presure is still high so water continues to leak out and the water level starts to drop. This happens quickly at the start but as the level of water going in and coming out starts to balance so the level of water dropping slows.

This last situation is the typical dieting senario. You reduce the amount you eat and lose a lot of weight. You gradually find it harder and harder to loose weight and you maintain it for a little while. Then you start to relax and increase your food a little and up goes your weight again.

The trick is to make changes in your food intake that you are happy with for life. If you want to stop eating chocolate I can help you. A better choice is that you can eat chocolate if you want to but you are not interested in doing so or you do and you find 3 pieces of chocolate more than enough.

If you want to lose weight and keep the weight off you need to feel comfortable at the size you plan to be (some people find the reaction of other people around them causes them not to like the new body size). You also need to be comfortable with the amount of food you are eating and the amount of energy you are burning.

Did you know exercise whilst being good for you tends not to help weight loss? Most people tend to end up having more soft drinks and food as a result of the exercise and therefore the energy lost overall tends not to be a great deal.

With Jon Hinchliffe Hypnotherapy it is recommended you several sessions of hypnosis and counselling. For this reason we have created 3 packages for you.

The details of each package are on the following pages:

The Bronze Weight Loss Package
The Silver Weight Loss Package
The Gold Weight Loss Package

Are colds inevitable? Should they be affecting Commonwealth Games stars?

“I came down with a bit of a tummy bug and had nothing to give today, I pretty much couldn’t stand up after my final

Fran Halsall, Day 3 of the Commonwealth Games.

I saw Fran talking about her Bronze medal achievement today and this got me wondering whether the English team have access to hypnotherapist. I have not allowed myself to get a full blown cold since New Year 2007/2008. Here is how I discovered this could happen.

Over the New Year period of 2007/2008 I went with Scouts to Kandersteg in Switzerland. I had only just started my training as a Hypnotherapist so I was still in my full blown stages of ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

We had arrived a time with lots of snow but it hadn’t snowed while we had been there. On a previous trip 18months before I had used my mobility scooter to get to a cable car. Then at the top got a horse and cart down to a lake called Oeschinensee.

Oeschinensee Lake Summer 2006

I had a morning where everyone was doing something too tiring for me so I had mentally pictured myself going to the lake and seeing it so frozen it was totally covered in snow and safe to walk on. Unfortunately around 2am the night before I woke up and was sick. I was gutted because, as I sat around not sure whether I would be sick again, I saw it had started to snow and it was snowing heavily. Not only would it be a good to see the lake I would now be able to see Kandersteg with fresh snow.

I was confident in what I was learning as hypnotherapist so I decided to focus on being well. I decided to see how I was at Breakfast. I ate breakfast but I was then sick again. I decided as long as I wasn’t sick after 9am I might still be OK to get up the mountain. I went back to sleep and woke up at 9am and was sick. How curious I thought.

I decided to go back to sleep and if I woke up before 11am I would perhaps see if I could get my mobility scooter down to the foot of the cable car. I woke at 11am on the dot. My interest was really spiked now. Two targets and I hit them both. How intriguing.

My mobility scooter made it to the cable car and since it was all downhill to the lake I decided to walk down to it knowing I would have to get back up but I would do it one way or another. It was probably a stupid thing to do but I made it despite feeling very tired and being desperate for the toilet. The difference between the two years was amazing so I was pleased to get to the lake.

Oeschinensee Lake Dec 2007

This whole experience got me thinking about colds. I knew now I had an ability to control how I felt. I also knew it is quite common for people to work and never get a cold and then go on holiday and relax and then get a cold. While this could be coincidence I think most people like this “can’t afford to be sick from work” so don’t accept being ill as an option. When on holiday all pressure is off and then they relax so far they are susceptible to viruses, especially if they are away from home.

I therefore set myself a challenge: Could I avoid having a cold for a year? The first couple of colds in the house were really easy to deal with. I noticed potential symptoms of a cold starting and immediately started focusing on be healthy. Normally for me it is in my throat I notice a cold first so I would focus on it becoming comfortable and normal.

On about the third cold I noticed it took me 2 days to feel totally normal but having the cold was almost irrelevant. I got the idea that perhaps I had the virus but that I was keeping it under control. (As I write this I feel this is perhaps something I need to challenge)

I easily made the year and have continued my game. One day I totally unexpectedly woke with a red raw chest. This was a major surprise as I had no inclination the night before and no time to send in the comfort. “Never mind” I thought, I will still not let it progress now I am aware of it. I got a very light cough and the next morning I went networking. There I saw what my cold could have been like. Nobody even realised I might have a cold my symptoms were so light.

One last bug that is worth mentioning was one that took me 5 days to clear. At the end of it my wife was diagnosed with Swine Flu. I think it highly possible I gave it to her as I had spent two days with someone that I feel gave me my “cold”. One of the key things of Swine Flu diagnosis was temperature. When I took mine out of curiosity it was very low. It was like my body was keeping me cooler so the virus was easier to handle. It does not matter to me if it was true. I kept well and that was the main thing.

The only side effect I notice of “not having a cold” is I can still be a little tired as mentally my unconscious is working harder.

And so back to swimming at the Commonwealth Games, I wonder what would have happened if Fran Halsall had been taught what I am doing. Perhaps she already has and perhaps that was why she could achieve her Bronze. If not I wonder if she could have primed her body to forget the infection for the duration of the races and therefore kept all of her performance.

Fran seemed philosophical about things

“I don’t know why I put myself through it sometimes. It’s frustrating more than anything, I know at my best I can swim a lot faster.

“But what can you do? I got in and gave it my best shot. I’ve got to be proud of it, really.”

She then had just 20 minutes’ rest before getting back in the pool for the semi-finals of the 100m butterfly where sadly she came fourth and missed qualifying for the final. Again I wonder how she focused herself in those 20 minutes. Perhaps she didn’t get chance with the press and the Bronze.

Transgenders Issues

Are you someone currently exploring your gender?

Are you struggling to come to terms with someone in your family changing sex or cross dressing?

Jon Hinchliffe Hypnotherapy is a safe place to come and discuss all issues of Transsexualism, transvestitism.

I am not qualified to evaluate potential transexuals and I would not use any hypnosis to explore gender issues. I can however talk through the issues. I can help friends and family come to terms with the changes and help them to understand that you are still you.

I work mainly in a future oriented way so if you have other issues and don’t want to go into certain areas of your past you are again safe with me.

A good starting place for help is the Gender Trust

Motivation matters when looking for increased profits

I am always talking about perspectives and perceptions with my clients. Today I was at a Refer-on networking meeting in Sudbury and I was given a great example of how a simple change in perceptions can increase profitability. I would therefore like to thank Stephen Walker of Motivation Matters for inspiring this article.

Who do you know that goes to a job and hates it? They accept they have to work in order to get an income and spend all day counting down the hours until they go home. Are they going to feel valued? Are they going to be productive and efficient?

Have you known people or worked for a manager where you know there is a problem in your role and you make a suggestion on how the process can be improved but the manager is uninterested?

It seems some companies have a built-in culture of negativity. Some companies are like a football team playing a defensive game. They know they have to only score a goal to win so they spend all the game defending in their own half and trying to score on a counter-attack. This is highly frustrating for the fans and the players especially when, with just 5 minutes to go, the other team sneaks a goal and they are then forced into playing attacking football which they are no longer skilled at.

How much more rewarding would it be for everyone if the team were defending in their opponents half and creating lots of opportunities to score? How much more likely are they to end up winning?

This is possible with a simple change of attitude.

Instead of the managers focusing inwards all the time, protecting their backs from the potential climbers in the company and the bottom level staff just working for pay, a whole new culture can be created.

Every member of staff can be encouraged to think about their roles and what can be done to improve processes. Managers can listen and actively enter into conversation about suggestions coming forward. They can pro-actively be looking for ways to help their managers. Top level managers can be focusing outside their company on how to improve processes and create more opportunities for profit by focusing on benefits for their customers and finding new ways to connect to their customers of tomorrow.

A simple change of outlook can achieve so much more positivity. I know which sort of company I would expect to survive in a difficult economic climate and I know which company I would like to work for as an employee.

If you can’t motivate yourself on a difficult day how can you expect those around you to be motivated?

Many people looking at the work Stephen Walker and I do, would think we are in totally different areas.  He is looking for large companies to help and I am looking to work with people on an individual basis.  The principles of what we work with however are exactly the same. People who feel good work harder. People who are appreciated feel good. People whose ideas are considered and rewarded with positivity will come up with more ideas. People whose ideas are crushed will be less likely to make suggestions.

I work with people to build them up from the inside whilst Stephen works with factors outside an individual’s control to create a better environment.

If you run a company and want to start playing attacking football please get in touch with Jon Hinchliffe Hypnotherapy or Stephen Walker’s Motivation Matters and let us guide you to increased profits.

The problem of focusing on not wanting something

This is the last of a trilogy of articles inspired by reading Ozzy Osbourne’s “I am Ozzy” book. When having a break from reading my normal hypnosis books I still found myself thinking as a hypnotherapist. The following section from “I am Ozzy” really jumped out at me:

“Rehab can work, but you have got to want it. If you really want to quit, you can’t say ‘Well, I want to quit today, but I might have a drink next week at my friend’s wedding.’ You’ve got to commit, then live each day as it comes. Every morning, you’ve got to wake up and say, ‘OK, today’s gonna be one more day without a drink,’ or a cigarette, or a pill, or a joint, or whatever it is that’s been killing you. That is as much as you can hope for when you’re an addict” Read the rest of this entry »

Naming Illnesses/Conditions and the problems it causes

It looks like this will be the second of a trilogy, inspired by me taking a break from reading hypnosis books and switching to reading Ozzy Osbourne’s “I am Ozzy” autobiography. I have really enjoyed reading the book but I am still in hypnotherapist mode and there were occasional parts which I found really interesting.

In this article I would like to talk about naming illnesses and conditions and the effects it has on us. In the book “Ozzy” writes:

“The shrink said my dyslexia had given me a terrible insecurity complex, so I could not take rejection or failure or pressure of any sort which is why I was self medicating with booze.” Read the rest of this entry »
